Stefanos Tsitsipas. Get use to hearing this name over and over again in the coming years. When you hear the word tennis, 3 names pop in our mind – Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. But as these legends of the game are heading to the dawn of their glittering careers, the new generation of players are ready to take over the realm. Alexander Zverev from Germany, Daniil Medvedev from Russia and Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece, all have been tipped to replace the legends of the game and they did not disappoint. Though none of them won any Grand Slams during the year, all of them did manage to win ATP tournaments throughout the year. Daniil Medvedev came closest to winning a Grand Slam this year, losing only in the finals of the US Open to R. Nadal.

In the recently concluded ATP World Tour Final, Stephan Tsitsipas came out on top after a closely fought duel against world no. 4 Dominic Thiem. On his title winning run, Tsitsipas came out on top against his closest rivals Medvedev and Zverev in the group stage. He lost his group stage match against Nadal, but still managed to qualify for the semi finals of the competition where he faced the mighty Roger Federer who was looking for redemption after his shocking Australian Open fourth round exit in the hands of his Greek counterpart. But Tsitsipas was in no mood for playing around as he defeated Federer again convincingly in straight sets. The final turned out to be the toughest match he faced in the competition where he had gone a set down to win the game 6-7, 6-2, 7-6. Tsitsipas who is currently world no. 6, became the first Greek player ever to win the prestigious ATP World Tour Finals. This was his third title in 2019 and 2020 promises to be even better.
